School suspect not found

UPDATE: 6:25 p.m.

Police didn't find a suspect Thursday after Bayside Middle School was locked down for several hours for reports of a suspicious person in the area, possibly carrying a weapon.

"The school implemented its hold and secure and lock down procedures and school staff did everything they could to keep students safe and calm during a high stress dynamic situation," the Central Saanich Police Service wrote on their website.

Earlier in the day, police said a student at the school required medical attention but the nature of the injury is unknown.

UPDATE: 3:20 p.m.

The lockdown and subsequent “hold and secure” at a Saanich middle school has been lifted after police responded to a “suspicious incident” at about 11:15 a.m.

Police had responded to a report of a man who was possibly armed acting strangely near the school.

An Emergency Response Team and canine unit were on the school grounds during the lockdown and heavily armed police were scouring the wooded area nearby.

It's unclear if the suspect was apprehended, but police said a student required medical attention.

A B.C. middle school is on lockdown Thursday as police search for a man who has been acting erratically.

Emergency crews and police were at Bayside Middle School around 11:15 a.m. today after students reported a strange man, possibly armed, on the periphery of school grounds.

The school is still on lockdown after initially being placed on a hold and secure. Parents cannot pick their children up until the lockdown is called off, police said.

The school district's superintendent says all the children are accounted for and safe within the building.

Police say the lockdown is precautionary and an Emergency Response Team and canine units are also at the school.
