Student brings gun to school

It’s the second time a student has brought an air gun to a Delta school in the last two weeks.

Someone contacted police around noon after seeing a “suspicious person” near Delview Secondary School Monday with what appeared to be a gun.

When officers arrived, they found a teen, who attended the school, carrying a pellet gun.

“Pellet guns can easily be confused or mistaken for a real weapon,” said Cris Leykauf, Delta police spokesperson.

“This one in particular looked very similar to a real weapon.”

Both Delview and nearby Gibson Elementary were placed on a “code yellow” for an hour. Classes kept running, but outside activities were stopped and no one besides students and staff were allowed into the buildings.

Police said the situation involved an argument between students and the student who brought the gun reportedly felt threatened.

Police are reminding parents to have conversations with their children about replica guns and safety at school.
