Trucker rescues moose calf

A kind-hearted trucker came to the rescue of a stranded moose calf near Vanderhoof.

Wayne Rowley was driving along a forest service road last week when he saw four legs sticking up out of the snow.

The calf had fallen upside down into deep snow and couldn't get out.

"Went around this one corner, and here's this moose. I didn't think it was a moose, I just seen these things sticking up out of the snowbank," Rowley told CTV.

He pulled over to have a look, and when he saw the calf was still alive decided: "I guess I have to dig you out now."

He tried expanding the hole the animal was in and even pulling it out by hand before using a rope to pull it to safety with the help of another trucker.

"He kind of looked at us, put his ears back and shook himself," Rowley said. "He just walked up on the road, like huh, thanks a lot, and away he went down the road."
