Connector relief arrives

Good news for weary motorists looking to get relief between the Okanagan and Merritt.

A $4.2-million rest area has opened on Highway 97C at the Loon Lake interchange, about 40 kilometres east of Merritt.

The facility, which replaces the now-closed rest stop at Merritt, includes running water and flush toilets. There are picnic tables, as well as separate parking areas for passenger, commercial and recreational vehicles

Electric car charging stations will be installed later in the spring. The site will also be one of eight in the province to get free Wi-Fi.

There are also provisions for future commercial development.

The rest area near Merritt closed earlier this year.
