Prolific porta-potty pyro

A prolific porta-potty arsonist in Vancouver has struck again, prompting a warning to all portable toilet owners from police.

The portable washroom was set ablaze just before 10 p.m. Tuesday in an alley off Robson Street, between Hornby and Burrard Streets.

After fire crews put out the blaze, little was left of the toilet except a puddle of molten plastic.

Tuesday's arson is the latest in a series of toilet fires that have plagued Vancouver.

On Jan. 24, a porta-potty was destroyed near the Blue Horizon Hotel on Robson Street and on Jan. 4, a porta-potty fire spread to the Vancouver Art and Leisure building in East Vancouver, causing damage.

After the Jan. 24 fire, firefighters said they'd responded to seven similar fires since Dec. 8, but the exact location of all these fires is unknown.

The Vancouver Police Department's Major Crimes Unit is investigating the most recent fire. They've asked anyone with information about any of the recent fires to call 604-717-3321.

Police have advised anyone with a porta-potty on their property to move it way from buildings, lock it overnight and remove toilet paper and hand sanitizer overnight.
