Hit by train in Shuswap

A 57-year -old man is lucky to be alive after being hit by a train in Chase.

Chase RCMP say the mobility-challenged man was unable to cross the tracks before he was struck by a westbound train.

He was taken to hospital in Salmon Arm with non-life threatening injuries.

"Chase RCMP assisted the CP Police Service with the investigation," stated Cpl. Scott Linklater in a press release. 

Immediately after, but before emergency responders could arrive, another motorist drove through the lighted barricades at the crossing causing minor damage.

Chase RCMP are asking anyone with information regarding this
motorist to call the CP Police Service at 1-800- 716-9132 or the Chase RCMP at 250-679- 3221.
