Time to change liquor laws?

David Eby, B.C.'s Attorney General, told reporters on Saturday he believes it's time to change the province's liquor laws.

Specifically, Eby said the laws that led to raids at four bars earlier this month should be revisited.

Three establishments on Vancouver Island and one in Vancouver were raided by government officials on Jan. 20.

Rare bottles of whisky were seized in all of those cases, which were acquired through the Scotch Malt Whisky Society of Canada instead of the B.C. Liquor Control Branch.

“Bars or restaurants that specialize in exotic products that they can’t get through the public wholesaler should be able to access that kind of product legally,” Eby said.

"That is an issue of law reform, and that law reform hasn’t happened yet.”

Following the whisky raids, an Alberta-based whisky distributor called B.C.'s liquor laws "archaic."
