Jogger struck by vehicle dies

A man has passed away after being hit by a vehicle while jogging on Gabriola Island, near Nanaimo, earlier this week.

The incident occurred on Wednesday on Berry Point Road, about two kilometres from the BC Ferries terminal on the island.

Police said the vehicle crossed two lanes of traffic before hitting the man. The driver remained at the scene and has cooperated with officers.

The victim was transported to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. His name has not been released, but he's been identified as a local volunteer firefighter.
