Hoyer to defend title

Brock Hoyer is continuing to make a name for himself in the world of snow bike racing.

The BC product won the inaugural snow bike competition at the X Games last year and he plans to defend his title at the popular extreme sports competition again this year.

Snow bikes are moto-cross race bikes fitted with a ski on the front and a track where the rear tire would normally be.

The sport is taking off throughout North America.

Hoyer, from Williams Lake, has dirt bike racing chops honed on the Canadian Arenacross and Supercross scene, and is hailed as a snow bike pioneer.

He initially saw snow bikes as a way to train year round, but he's since become a star of viral backcountry freeriding videos and has emerged as the man to beat after wins in some of the first sanctioned snow bikecross and snow bike hillcross events.

He is also no stranger to the Okanagan, having competed in and winning the hill climb event at SilverStar Mountain.

The race, put on by the Vernon Snowmobile Club, attracts some of the top racers in the world and is held at the end of ski season.

Hoyer will compete in the snowcross event in Aspen, Colo., X Games Jan. 25-28.
