Rally to send body home

Friends of a woman who was struck and killed by Canada Post vehicle in Richmond last week have raised enough money to send her body back to India.

Esthersita "Esther" Anthonyraj Achari was studying in B.C. to become a licensed nurse.

The 27 year old was hit by the transport truck at Garden City Road and Sea Island Way on Wednesday.

Anthonyraj Achari had just got a residency placement at a long-term care facility and was studying to become an RN, with only a few exams left to write.

"Right up until the end, she was making her dreams come true," said friend Niji Jose.

"She was the most generous person I have ever met," roommate Anthony Wachira told CTV.

"She struggled to come to Canada... Her parents sold off everything they had to send her here."

A GoFundMe campaign started with help from the Thamil Cultural Society of B.C. sought to raise $8,000 to send her body home to Mumbai, but by Monday morning had already more than doubled its target.

The crash that led to Anthonyraj Achari's death is still under investigation by police.
