12-car pileup in Richmond

Fog and icy conditions contributed to 12-car pileup in Richmond, Sunday.

The chain-reaction crashes happened on a Highway 91 exit ramp.

"In my opinion, it was just the ice," RCMP Const. Niels Hermes told CTV. "It was so bad on that ramp this morning that we could barely stand on it."

The first car spun out on the eastbound Knight Street ramp, and more vehicles lost control, crashing into each other or the concrete barriers.

"The people that came around the curve, they just weren't able to deal with the black ice and they just started piling up on each other," said Hermes. "It was just car, after car, after car for about 100 metres."

There were no serious injuries in the incident.
