Hwys remain dangerous

Highway conditions are improving across the Southern Interior but roads are still nowhere near bare.

The forecast is calling for sun, cloud and well below freezing conditions for New Year's Eve.

Visibility is clear on most routes but icy and slippery sections remain.

DriveBC is reporting compact snow and slippery sections throughout the Okanagan on Highway 97, Highway 33, east of Kelowna, as well as on Westside Road.

Compact snow is also being reported for Highway 5A from Princeton to the Gulliford Lake Rest Area, as well as for most of Highway 3.

Drivers on Highway 1 can expect compact snow and slippery sections on most of the highway.

However, the section of Highway 1, from Sorrento to the west of Sicamous, is experiencing blowing snow creating limited visibility.

DriveBC asks the public to be cautious on the roads and leave yourself extra time to get to your destination.
