Power restored to thousands

Power was restored as of about 8 p.m. to more than 115,000 customers affected by ice storms in the Fraser Valley.

According to BC Hydro's website, all substations are now operational, allowing for further damage assessment.

More than 75 crews worked through challenges including frozen equipment, downed poles and lines in hazardous conditions to restore service.

Some customers were expected to remain with power overnight, and longer in some areas with lots of secondary damage.

Meanwhile, power was also out for about 3,000 residents of West Kelowna Saturday night.

The lights went out about 10:30 p.m., and BC Hydro reports electricity was restored by 12:30 a.m.

There's no word on what caused the outage, which affected the area south of Cougar Road, east of Brendalee Road and west of Sunnybrae Road.
