Hwy 3 closure in effect

UPDATE: 1:56 p.m.

Highway 3 is now closed in both directions for scheduled avalanche control measures for 27 kilometres in Kootenay Pass. The available alternative route is Highway 3A from Nelson to Creston and the Kootenay Lake Ferry. DriveBC expects the highway to reopen at 6:00 p.m.

UPDATE: 12:55 p.m.

This morning's vehicle incident has been cleared and Highway 3 near Hosmer is completely open. 

UPDATE: 11:55 a.m.

Highway 3 has been reopened 2 kilometres east of Hosmer with single-lane alternating traffic.

UPDATE: 11:03 a.m.

DriveBC has revised its report and now expects Highway 3 to reopen at noon.

No detour is currently in place. 

ORIGINAL: 10:07 a.m.

Highway 3 is closed in both directions just east of Hosmer because of a vehicle incident. 

DriveBC reports they expect the road will reopen around 11 a.m.

The highway will also be closed in both directions at the Kootenay Pass near Creston for 27 kilometres from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today for avalanche control maintenance. 

A suggested alternate route is from Nelson to Creston via Highway 3A and the Kootenay Lake Ferry.
