A semi truck slammed into a bridge in Victoria Wednesday, ripping open the truck's trailer.
But for residents of the area, it came as no surprise.
The out-of-commission E&N rail bridge over Hereward Road has claimed many victims over the years, with many truck drivers apparently not noticing the 3.7-metre clearance sign posted in several places before the bridge.
"It's happened, I don't know, six times since I've lived here that I can remember," one passerby told CTV Vancouver Island. "This is probably the biggest one that I've seen here so far.”
The bridge is known as “the can-opener,” due to its propensity for tearing open large trucks.
The driver of Wednesday's crunched semi truck, an 11-year veteran, was uninjured.
