Snowfall warning for Island

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for west and north Vancouver Island.

Snowfall, with total amounts of 10 to 15 cm is expected and heavy snow is expected for later today on much of Vancouver Island.

A Pacific frontal system will move onto Vancouver Island today and, with cold arctic air in place along the BC Coast, heavy snow is expected.

Snow is forecast to begin in earnest later this morning over West and North Vancouver Island. Precipitation will ease to flurries or rain showers this evening. Snowfall accumulations exceeding 10 cm are possible, particularly for inland areas and over higher terrain.

Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

DriveBC has also issued a snowfall alert for the Island.

Unlike yesterday highways in the Okanagan appear to be clear and no warnings have been issued as of noon Christmas Eve.
