21 years for violent murder

A man with a history of violence was sentenced to 21 years in jail for the beating death of a mother of five.

Daniel Alphonse Paul beat his girlfriend to death in East Vancouver and has a history of violence against women.

He was convicted Friday of second-degree murder in the 2015 death of Crystal Rose Paull, a mother of five and a grandmother.

The conviction comes with an automatic life sentence, but the court decided Friday Paul will serve 21 years before he is eligible for parole.

"Our family can start to heal all the hearts that shattered through this whole ordeal," said Charles Paull, Crystal’s older brother. "It's been years of waiting just to hear those words. This whole ordeal has been really trying on our family."
