Revolving door of parties

As Victoria considers tightening the city's rules on short-term rentals, one resident says she's had enough of the "revolving door" of parties at an Airbnb next door.

The city has received numerous complaints about illegal rentals, but Melanie Wood says she's done tolerating the noise from loud parties in the other half of her duplex.

“That’s turned into a revolving door of new people almost every day,” she told CTV.

“We’ve had large groups of young gentlemen, which was this last weekend, and they weren’t here to be quiet and knit,” she said.

City bylaw staff are currently investigating 18 short-term vacation rental complaints "where the allegations are that they’re operating in contravention of the zoning regulations,” says city clerk Chris Coates.

The city has suggested the provincial government tax vacation rentals in the same manner as hotels.
