Drug lab still affects water

Three weeks after a clandestine drug lab was busted near Rock Creek, a handful of residents still can't drink the water in their taps due to possible contamination.

Most residents of the area between Rock Creek and Bridesville were given the OK to use the water again on Friday. Interior Health lifted a Do Not Use order for most of those properties based on information from the Ministry of Environment.

The order was issued March 2 as a precautionary measure after it was learned a drug lab had been dumping hazardous materials in the area that may have contaminated local groundwater.

The ministry has been investigating the extent of the contamination, and determined, for a majority of the properties, the contamination is considered "extremely low."

There are three properties that remain affected by the original order.

Property owners will be contacted as more information becomes available.
