Two skiers buried briefly by an avalanche over the weekend are a lesson for those thinking about venturing off the beaten path.
Whistler Blackcomb says a small avalanche Sunday swept two skiers downhill and buried them when they were returning to the ski area from an out-of-bounds area.
The pair were able to dig themselves out of the snow and did not need to be rescued.
The resort said skiers should check conditions through Avalanche Canada before leaving marked trails.
