Paddlewheeler pirate foiled

A Williams Lake man is facing charges in connection to what police believe may have been the attempted theft of a paddlewheeler tour boat docked in the Lower Mainland.

The New Westminster Police Department were called to the M.V. Native shortly after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, and say a male suspect forced his way onto the vessel and started the engine.

The man also allegedly fired a flare at two witnesses in a nearby boat. No one was injured.

Officers arrived shortly afterwards and arrested the suspect.

Brendan Fediuk, 39, has been charged with break and enter a vessel, possession a weapon, a marine flare, for a purpose dangerous to the public peace and attempt to commit theft of a motor vessel.
