175 km/h in an 80 zone

A speeder was nabbed doing more than twice the limit on the Sea-to-Sky Highway, Friday.

RCMP caught the man zooming toward Whistler, just outside of Squamish, at 175 km/h in an 80 zone.

The man, believed to be in his thirties, was driving a Toyota Sequoia SUV at night.

“That particular area has some construction going on there,” Squamish RCMP said. “It was lightly raining at the time with wet, sand-covered roads.”

The driver received a $483 ticket for excessive speeding, three demerit points and his vehicle was impounded for at least seven days.
