Puppy love is blind

An eight-week-old deaf and blind puppy has found it’s forever home after being adopted this weekend.

The eight-week-old border collie-Australian shepherd, who is named Moxie, was in the care of the Victoria Humane Society before being adopted.

“She came to us from another rescue that didn’t have the ability to handle her,” said Penny Stone, executive director of VHS to CTV Vancouver Island.

“Rescues knew we’ve worked with these dogs before," she said. "We kind of know about these kinds of dogs and how they need to be taken care of.”

The pup was bred irresponsibly and her white coat along with being born deaf and blind was a result.

“They used to euthanize these puppies the moment they were born,” said Stone. “It’s sad that the breeders still do this.

"When you do it, the coat colours and characteristics are so stunning, but you’re putting animals at risk.”

Over 100 applications were submitted to adopt the pup.

Moxie was adopted by a family who also had an adult collie named Macy.
