Murder on the seawall

Vancouver police have identified the victim of a murder in Stanley Park.

Lubomir “Lubo” Kunik, 61, was stabbed at the seawall Wednesday night just before 11 p.m. He was dead by the time paramedics arrived.

CTV News spoke to Francis Lavasseur, who was walking his dog when he found the murder victim. He said he felt uneasy as he called 911.

"I felt as if someone was there. I felt scared," he said.

After calling police, Levasseur did witness someone fleeing the scene.

Investigators are now appealing to the public for help solving the crime.

"Detectives want to speak with anyone who knows Lubo, or who had any contact with him leading up to his death on Wednesday night," said the Vancouver Police Department in a statement.

"The VPD are also asking for anyone who was on the Stanley Park seawall between English Bay and Prospect Point on Wednesday night, between 8 and 11 p.m., to call detectives at 604-717-2500."

Tips can also be called in anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
