Cheques cut for cities

The province opened its wallet for cities across the region. 

B.C communities received grants-in-lieu of property taxes. The B.C government has distributed almost $16 million in compensation for municipal property taxes to 56 communities around the province. 

Since 2002, the province has distributed more than $254 million in grants-in-lieu to B.C. communities. 

A few municipalities and districts that received grants-in-lieu in 2016 include:

Kelowna - $290,551.38, Penticton - $88,704.16, Vernon - $100,897.06, Vancouver - $2,271,218.05, Oliver - $5,845.23, Abbotsford - $171,686.8, Surrey - $802,808.73, Terrace - $116,167.88, and Victoria - $3,261,970.92.
