More BC NDP nominations

The BC NDP is wrapping up 2016 with a trio of nominations.

Councillors, mayors and school trustees past and present are winning their bids to run as BC NDP candidates in ridings from the Kootenays to Burnaby, gearing the party up for the May 9 election.

“These leaders have deep roots in their communities and have shown they have great local support,” said BC NDP Leader John Horgan. “I couldn’t be more proud of the diversity and strength of these candidates, especially combined with our incumbents.”

This weekend alone three municipal leaders were nominated:

  • Nancy Bepple, candidate for Kamloops-South Thompson, is a former Kamloops city councillor.
  • Sue Powell, candidate for Parksville-Qualicum, sits on Parksville City Council.
  • Abbotsford School Trustee Preet Rai is the candidate in Abbotsford South.

“Our new candidates are hearing first hand how hard it is to get ahead when the Christy Clark is only looking out for people at the top. Costs keep going up and she keeps cutting back on education and health care,” Horgan said. “We know that government should make life better for people, not harder.”

The new candidates join seven others nominated this year with municipal leadership experience, including Penticton Coun. Tarik Sayeed.

Nominations are to resume in the New Year.
