World Juniors BC bound

UPDATED: 1:55 p.m.

Vancouver and Victoria will host the 2019 World Junior Hockey Championship.

The cities will co-host starting on Boxing Day of 2018, with the championship game played at Rogers Arena on Jan. 5, 2019.

It will be lucky No. 13 for Canada and the second time that the province has hosted the tournament.

"The world juniors are an opportunity to see the next generation of hockey greats, leaving everything on the ice as they compete for their countries. It's always one of the most exciting events of the year, and we're proud to welcome the world back to Vancouver and Victoria in 2019," says Premier Christy Clark.

Vancouver hosted the tournament in 2006, when Canada rallied to beat Russia in the gold-medal game.

The province says it will set aside $2.3 million, with $300,000 supporting hockey across the province.

This year's tournament will be played in Toronto and Montreal.
