Attacked by pit bull

A Coquitlam dog owner and her pet are recovering from a pit bull attack Saturday night.

The woman was walking her golden retriever, Lilly, when the pit bull lunged at her, just steps from their condo complex. She suffered cuts to her hands and arms.

Veterinary care to treat Lilly's wounds has so far cost $2,500.

The attacking dog was leashed, but its owner was unable to control it.

“I heard this woman... running, I saw her go, and she is screaming a dog’s name,” neighbour Marlene Stewart told CTV. “The next thing I know, the cops are here."

Other complex residents say they've also had run-ins with the dog.

“It’s not a good dog, it’s a dangerous dog,” said Ralph Shorter.

“We were in the elevator, and when the door opened, the pit bull was there and he lunged at (my dog),” another resident told CTV.

The city will decide the fate of the pit bull, and the complex strata council says it will take action to have the dog removed.
