Drone crash at fireworks

A drone has been seized after it crashed during the Celebration of Light fireworks Wednesday night.

Police urge people to leave the flying machines at home after at least half dozen were seen buzzing last night's Team Australia fireworks display.

With an estimated crowd of 300,000, the potential for injury is great, the VPD warns.

“One of those drones losing control in the air, losing battery power and falling to the ground in a crowd is somewhat dangerous,” Const. Randy Fincham told CTV.

The drone crashed near the Starbucks at Davie and Denman streets. No one was hurt, but the craft was seized. A second drone may also have crashed.

Transport Canada recommends drones not be flown over sporting events, concerts, festivals and other public gatherings.
