Motorcyclist dies in crash

A man has died after the motorcycle he was operating collided with a bus in the Lower Mainland.

On Tuesday, about 2:30 p.m., RCMP responded to the Steveston area of Richmond for a serious crash between a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle and a transit bus operated by Coast Mountain Bus Company.

“The motorcycle was heavily damaged. The motorcyclist, a male in his early forties, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries,” said Cpl. Dennis Hwang, adding the unidentified man was from Fort McMurray.

The driver of the bus was uninjured and has been co-operative with police.

“We are in the very early stages of our investigation. The 4th Avenue and Chatham Street area was fairly populated during the time of the collision. Our investigators spoke to several people who heard the crash, but were unable to provide further details. We are looking for witnesses who may have left the area prior speaking with us. We would also implore drivers passing through the area with dash cams to review their footage for anything that may be able to assist us. We would greatly appreciate your help,” said Hwang.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit at 604-278-1212.
