Truck crashes into bike lane

A crash on the Stanley Park Causeway snarled Vancouver traffic for hours, Friday.

Just before 7 a.m., a pickup got stuck behind the guard rail protecting the cycling lane from traffic.

The driver was found unconscious in the vehicle and was taken to hospital. His condition is unknown.

The incident backed up traffic all the way to Lonsdale Avenue in North Vancouver and 11th Street in West Vancouver.

Crews had to remove a section of the bike lane barrier to tow the truck.

The guard rails were part of a $7-million safety improvement project that was completed in February.

B.C.’s Ministry of Transportation has yet to respond to questions about whether there are any concerns the barrier did not function as intended.
