500k in drugs seized

Police conducting routine safety checks along the Trans-Canada Highway netted a half-million-dollar drug bust on Wednesday.

Members of the Trans Canada East Traffic Service were set up near Field, when officers initiated a traffic stop with a suspected violator driving a Mitsubishi Outlander.

The officer immediately entered into a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act investigation, which resulted in the seizure of more than four kilograms of marijuana and 10 litres of high-quality hash oil commonly referred to as "Phoenix Tears."

Two Alberta men, aged 24 and 47, are scheduled to appear in Golden provincial court on May 10.

Police believe the seized drugs hold an estimated street value of more than $500,000.

"It is extremely rewarding knowing that we were able to keep these dangerous drugs from reaching the streets of our communities," said Sgt. Rob Haney.
