Wind and rain blow in

Despite the Little White Mountain fire being fully contained smoke is still lingering in the valley.

The air quality index rating for the Central Okanagan remains between a low and moderate risk to health, and a smoky skies advisory is still in effect for the entire Okanagan.

In Kelowna, rain is forecast for the day, which should help clear the air. There is a 60 per cent chance of showers this afternoon and into the evening.

Winds are expected throughout the day, gusting between 20 and 40 km/h.

Temperatures will hover around 18 C for Monday, and it's expected the cooler trend will stick around for the rest of the week.

The North Okanagan will also see showers, about five to 10 mm of rain and a high of only 15 C.

In the south, warmer temperatures of 19 C are expected. However, it will remain cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of showers. Residents in Penticton should note there are high winds forecast for the area with 30-50 km/h gusts.

Cooler temperatures and rains should help with the firefighting effort, especially in Oliver, where crews are working to contain the Testalinden Creek blaze. The fire is burning approximately six kilometres west of Oliver and is now estimated at 4,295 hectares and is 60 per cent contained.

The evacuation order put into effect Friday has been rescinded for 27 properties and homes in the upper Fairview Road area, west of Oliver.

Residents living in Grand Forks and Christina Lake are more at ease after evacuation alerts stemming from the Stickpin blaze in Washington have been lifted.

Elsewhere in the Southeast Fire District, the Rock Creek fire is considered 75 per cent contained and 4,417 hectares.
