Ill-prepared hikers rescued

Three young women were rescued from a North Shore trail Thursday night after getting turned around in the dark.

The group, in their 20s, phoned for assistance after getting lost near Dog Mountain. They were hiking without a flashlight.

North Shore Rescue issued a warning, after locating the women and guiding them to safety.

"You've just gotta be prepared," NSR search manager Jeff Yarnold told CTV. "I mean, going out at night without lights right now just doesn't make sense. You've gotta make sure you know where you are going, you have a proper plan and you're actually bringing decent equipment."

The women were quickly located and were cold, but otherwise in good shape. They walked out of the woods early this morning.

Despite the women not being prepared, they did the right thing by staying put and calling for help, Yarnold said.
