Princeton residents recently woke up to find a new rainbow crosswalk in their town.
According to resident Spencer Coyne, the idea for such a crosswalk to brighten things up, appeared on Facebook in June.
Days later, on June 26, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on gay marriage and on the night of June 27, a group of kids with the support of their parents went downtown and coloured the crosswalk across Bridge Street from Veterans Square to the post office in solidarity.
Coyne received a message that it had been done and went downtown and took photos of the street art and posted them online.
It subsequently became the talk of the town.
A group led by resident Nienke Klaver then drafted a letter asking for a crosswalk to be painted.
At the last council meeting, the letter was on the agenda and a motion was made and passed to paint the crosswalk that the kids had previously coloured.
A crew came in on July 29 and worked through the night.
