Exhausted hiker airlifted

As Penticton Search and Rescue volunteers wound down operations near Cathedral Lakes Lodge on Sunday, they were called to assist in two medical evacuations.

Lynne Carmody and Rick Moynan made it safely back to the lodge after a week lost in the mountains.

As they were packing up, the PENSAR helicopter team was called to Sicamous to assist in evacuating a paraglider who had crashed.

While enroute, Sicamous first responders were able to safely evacuate the paraglider pilot and have him transferred to a waiting ambulance.

Then, they were called to a medical evacuation in the Little White Mountain area.

The team recovered a man who was with a group of hikers and appeared to be suffering from heat exhaustion. He was flown to an awaiting ambulance on Highway 33 and transferred to Kelowna General Hospital.
