Goodale to talk economics

Liberal MP Ralph Goodale will be in the Okanagan next weekend for a public discussion on implementing the conditions for economic growth, locally and nationally.

The presentation is part of the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce public speaker series. The event takes place June 27 at the Prestige Inn. Registration is at 8:15 a.m., with breakfast starting at 8:30 a.m.

Tickets are $25 for chamber members and $35 for non-members and are currently available through the chamber at 102 2901 32nd St.

Later in the day, he will present the same speech in Penticton.

That gathering will be held at the Lakeside Resort, from 7 to 8:15 p.m. and is free.

It will be followed by a fundraising wine and cheese reception that is $75 per person. The proceeds will help finance the campaign of Connie Denesiuk, Liberal candidate in the new riding of South Okanagan-West Kootenay.

Goodale is MP for the Regina-area constituency of Wascana and is deputy leader of the Liberal Party of Canada. He was first elected as an MP in 1974 and returned to the House of Commons in 1993.

In government for more than 12 years, Goodale served in the federal cabinet as minister of agriculture, minister of natural resources, government House leader, minister of public works and finally minister of finance.

He has experience in business, agriculture, law and broadcasting, and was recognized by his peers with the first-ever Parliamentarian of the Year award in 2006.
