Teen killed in crash

A teenage driver is dead after her car plunged into a water-filled ditch in the Fraser Valley.

The 18 year old lost control of her Honda Civic on the 12700 block of Woolridge Road in Pitt Meadows, Tuesday night. The car flipped and landed in the ditch.

Police say the 17-year-old passenger was able to undo her seatbelt and escape, but the driver lost consciousness and wasn’t able to get out.

Witnesses rushed to help two teens and were praised by police for their efforts.

“Police want to acknowledge the determination of the citizens who managed to get both occupants out before emergency personnel arrived on scene,” said Const. Amanda Harnett.

The 18 year old was pronounced dead a short time later, after being rushed to hospital. The passenger suffered minor injuries.

The B.C. Coroners Service is investigating.
