Dramatic highway blaze

The driver of an SUV escaped unharmed after his vehicle suddenly burst into flames Wednesday evening.

The vehicle was between Princeton and Hedley on Highway 3 when the driver apparently noticed flames coming from under the hood.

Sgt. Barry Kennedy with the Princeton RCMP said the cause is unknown.

"It didn't spread. The vehicle caught fire, he pulled over to the side of the road and called in," Kennedy said. "It was something in the engine, maybe oil fell on the hot engine."

The car came to rest about a kilometre away from Nendicks Campground.

The property was unharmed by the blaze.
