Telus to invest $10.6M

Telus plans to invest more than $10 million in the Okanagan Valley from Osoyoos to Vernon over the next three years.

The move is part of $4 billion in spending the telecommunications giant plans for B.C. and follows the $100 million promise for Kelowna and West Kelowna in March

The money is going towards new infrastructure to meet demand for high-speed internet, 4G LTE wireless and to enhance their Optik TV service.

"Our networks provide the communications backbone for critical services such as education and healthcare, which will benefit people right here in Penticton for years to come," said Steve Jenkins, Telus general manager for the Southern Interior.

Eric Foster, MLA for Vernon-Monashee said "As the natural resource sector grows, more people need access to phone and Internet services in remote areas.

"These upgrades to Vernon’s telecommunications network will ensure workers can communicate effectively, improving our ability to do business and promote worker safety.”

Telus claims that by the end of 2018, it will have invested more than $47 billion in B.C. since 2000.
