Woman killed in Surrey

Update – March 29

The woman killed late Friday night has been identified as 25-year-old Salamawit Girma of Surrey.

Members of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team were called to the scene early Saturday morning, when the death was determined to be suspicious.

The victim’s spouse has been in contact with police and has cooperated with the investigation.

IHIT investigators will be conducting interviews throughout the day to determine if foul play was a factor in Girma’s death.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is looking for tips in a suspicious killing Friday night.

The crime scene is near 127th Street and 103 Avenue in Surrey.

Surrey RCMP was called to a residence in the area of 127th street and 103 Avenue at 11 p.m. Friday to investigate the death of a woman in the home.

IHIT was called in just after 1:30 a.m. when it was determined the death of the female was suspicious.

Sergeant Stephanie Ashton, media relations officer for IHIT says “This is not believed to be a random act. We have no reason to believe residents in the area are at risk at this time.”   

Ashton says “investigators are now looking into the events that led up to this women’s death.”
