Small Business, Big Culture

Residents of the Thompson-Okanagan are learning more about the place they live in an effort to encourage them to support local business.

A six part video series has been produced through a project titled ‘Small Business, Big Culture’, which highlights towns and cities across both B.C. and Alberta.

In each video local businesses owners, and key town players are interviewed to profile the city and it’s culture.

Vernon made the list along with Armstrong and Kamloops. In the Vernon series, which was published to YouTube on Feb. 17, businesses such as Sproing Creative, the Downtown Vernon Association, Kalavida Surf Shop, The Naked Pig, and Triumph Coffee House were highlighted.

During the Kamloops video, Mayor Peter Milobar speaks about the historic buildings in the downtown core, and business owners such as Andrew Blackwell of Zack’s Coffee and Christina Grono of The Art We Are, weigh in on what makes their city special.

Armstrong is celebrated as a vibrate community in the series, which captures the uniqueness of places like the Caravan Farm Theater and Wild Oak Cafe.

The project, which gives insight into the people, events, local businesses and history of each community, was funded by a grant from TELUS OptikTM Local Community Programming and is available for free on demand on TELUS Optik TV.
