Arrest in vehicle theft, chase

A 43-year-old Cranbrook man has been arrested in connection with a vehicle theft from Grand Forks. The vehicle was later used as a getaway car.

Daniel Wayne Miller is now facing multiple charges including break and enter, theft over $5,000 and possession of stolen property over $5,000.

According to Osoyoos RCMP, officers were called to assist in stopping a 2003 Dodge Dakota travelling toward Osoyoos from Midway on Jan. 23. The vehicle had been stolen in Grand Forks and then used as a getaway vehicle after a residential break and enter in Midway.

The suspect had just committed the B&E, stealing jewelry and firearms, before fleeing the police in Midway, making this a high-risk situation.

Osoyoos officers located the suspect and vehicle on Highway 3 near the lookout, travelling toward Osoyoos.

Police took pursuit, but were forced to disengage due to the suspect's dangerous driving.

Miller was eventually apprehended when he drove to the parking lot at Spirit Ridge Resort. The stolen firearms were located in the vehicle and had been accessible to the suspect.

Miller is slated to appear in court on Feb. 4.
