9 saved after boat flips
A lighthouse keeper on Entrance Island is being hailed a hero after he noticed a fishing boat taking on water Monday afternoon.
CHEK News reports the man leapt into action and was at the scene in minutes, and able to bring all nine people on board his boat.
The rescue happened around 2 p.m. near Gabriola Island, and authorities say the Richmond residents had been in the water for less than 10 minutes before they were rescued.
It is unclear what caused the boat to suddenly take on water and flip over, but it is being towed to Vancouver Island for a full investigation.
Another boater in the area says it did not appear that anyone was wearing life jackets.
