Police search for escaped inmate

Lower Mainland police are on the lookout for an inmate who went missing from Mission Institution Sunday afternoon.

CTV Vancouver reports Norman Gilbert Riel was observed getting in to a white suburban outside the Fraser Valley federal prison.

Riel was serving out second degree murder conviction in 1998 in Vancouver.

Police are advising anyone who sees Riel to call 911 and not approach him.

He is 41-years-old, Metis, 5-foot 8-inches, 210 pounds with long brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact the Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161 or crime stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
