UPDATE 7 P.M.: - Northbound lanes on Highway 5, the Coquihalla have been re-opened.
Traffic is again moving north from Merritt to Kamloops
A vehicle fire on the Coquihalla Highway just north of Merritt has brought traffic in both directions to a standstill.
The vehicle, believed to be a semi, burst into flames sometime after 6 p.m. Monday.
James Murphy is caught up in the traffic jam.
He says the driver of the rig apparently got out just before it burst into flames.
Witnesses say he appeared to be okay.
Murphy says water tenders from both the Merritt Fire Department and Forestry are on hand.
He says an initial firetruck made it to the scene but didn't have enough water to extinguish the blaze.
The burning vehicle is in the southbound lane.
