Search now a recovery mission

The search for two men missing since Monday while boating on Kinbasket Lake near Revelstoke has turned into a recovery operation.

RCMP S/Sgt Kurt Grabinsky, says the two men are now classified as missing and presumed drowned.

The men, Allen Healy, 60, of Osoyoos and Mike Murphy, 55, from Mission, were both contract workers with Western Pacific Enterprises working with BC Hydro at the Mica Dam.

"The RCMP continues to be on the water searching the water for any signs of the two men. We have the underwater recovery team also assessing the situation for diving," says Grabinsky.

"A search and recovery team is currently deploying a side scan sonar to scour the water."

Kinbasket Lake is a reservoir behind the dam.

Grabinsky says the lake is very long and very wide and about 600 feet deep.

Healy and Murphy were in a 12 foot aluminum fishing boat.

Searchers have found no sign of the men or the boat.
