A search is on near Revelstoke for Two missing boaters.
On Monday July 7, at approximately 11:45 p.m. the Revelstoke RCMP Detachment received a report of two missing males who were boating on Kinbasket Lake, which is a water reservoir north of Mica Dam.
The males were in a 12 foot aluminum fishing boat and have not been seen since their departure.
BC Hydro and contract employees scoured the shoreline and surrounding roadways over the night. Revelstoke RCMP and Revelstoke Search and Rescue attended by helicopter to the area at approximately 5:30 a.m. on July 8 and conducted an extensive aerial patrol of the area.
Over 100 square kilometres were searched without any sign of the boat or males. The Revelstoke RCMP later attended to the lake and conducted further searches by boat for the remainder of the afternoon.
The males are both approximately 60 years of age and are from Osoyoos and Mission. Both were contract employees working at Mica Dam.
Kinbasket Lake is a vast water reservoir which is a flooded valley. The depths near the dam are up to 600 feet and the shoreline is very steep.
Further efforts will be made on Wednesday to conduct more air and water patrols in an attempt to locate the males.
