Crown: calculated execution
The Crown says a gang shooting in the Vancouver area that left six people dead was a planned and deliberate execution.
Crown lawyer Mark Levitz says evidence from the crime scene indicates there were two shooters who fired with precision in order to kill the victims.
Cody Haevischer and Matthew Johnston are each charged with conspiracy and six counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of six people, including two innocent bystanders, in Surrey, in October 2007.
Levitz says the six men were shot while lying face down, most with their hands on their heads, indicating that they were held against their will and ordered to the floor.
He says at least 16 bullets hit the victims in what he described as precise, deliberate shots that were designed to kill them "in the most efficient way possible."
The Crown alleges the murders began as a hit on a rival drug trafficker but that five others, including a fireplace repairman and a neighbour, were added to the list to eliminate potential witnesses.
