Cat shot with arrow dies

RCMP are warning residents on Pender Island to keep a close eye on their pets after a cat walked home with an arrow lodged in its body.

The feline named Wishes died a few hours later in a veterinarian clinic in the Gulf Islands community.

Police believe the cat was shot with the 60-centimetre arrow not far from its owner's home on Sunday.

Mounties say the black arrow, with two red feathers and one white one, is commonly used to hunt small game.

RCMP have notified the SPCA and the Capital Regional District's animal control office to help in the investigation.

Police are also calling on anyone with information to contact them about what they're calling a terrible act.
